reclaiming chloe's breasts

Cancer forced her into a double mastectomy, but Chloe is determined to feel sexy again.

You guys, this was my first tattoo on a person post-mastectomy, post-reconstruction. I think it’s a beautiful thing, to take back ownership of your body after it’s been through so much.

Cancer invaded Chloe’s body without her consent. Then doctors and surgeons poked and prodded and put her under so many invasive surgeries. She lost her nipples (as many breast cancer survivors do), and didn’t recognize her body anymore.

I was brought to tears with this session. She is such an inspiration.

To cover her body in these freehand floral designs was such an incredible honour. To ask me to work so intimately with her breasts, asking me to change her relationship with her body and her sexuality, it shows how strong and trusting Chloe is. She’s such a resilient and powerful person.

It felt like a lot of pressure, as an artist who had never done this before. But in the end, it was very beautiful, and I’m so grateful for her trust.
